A pro-animal cruelty organisation has been nominated for an Irish public relations industry award. This is for their recent campaign to convince the Irish political class that hunting farmed deer is part of our Irish rural tradition, and that causing disruption to rural life is an essential element of the day’s fun.
For many years pro-bloodsports organisations have tried to spin the line that their activities are part of a natural order that involves very little if any animal cruelty. Despite the factual and visual evidence, these animal abusers went about their business of feeding society a defence of animal abuse. Thankfully people were not fooled, and they rejected attempts to normalise animal abuse.
However, due to political inaction and cowardice, bloodsports remain a feature of Irish life. Their presence hangs like an odour in rural Ireland, and they are carried out by people still occupying Darwin’s waiting room.
For a public relations campaign promoting animal abuse to even been nominated for an industry award shows just how far out of step Irish society is with modern attitudes to animal rights.
This attempt at whitewashing the truth about the evil nature of bloodsports will not succeed. Despite a tsunami of lies and glossy PR, nothing will alter the fact that animals suffer and die needlessly because of bloodsports.
