A UNION official with Siptu has denied saying that ‘No Irish’ signs are appearing on Poland’s construction sites – but says he wouldn’t be surprised if they are.
Michael Kilcoyne of Siptu was widely reported in the national media as saying that ‘No Irish’ signs have sprung up on some building sites in Poland, but he told Metro Éireann he has no evidence that such actions are occurring.
“The ‘No Irish’ signs comment was made by a caller to Midwest Radio, and I answered that I wouldn’t be surprised if it was happening,” he clarified.
Kilkoyne said that his conclusion was based on the fact that many Polish construction workers had been paid less than what they were entitled to, and that such abuses continue.
