UK police have racism issues

Last update - Thursday, January 15, 2009, 06:17 By Metro Éireann

BRITAIN’S POLICE have again come under the spotlight for their treatment of ethnic minority officers.

A new report has found that one force’s head of equality and diversity was even discovered ridiculing a black gay officer and openly stating how he wanted to have sex with his secretary.
The report, by the Equality and Human Rights Comm-ission, reviewed the police some 10 years after the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry, which branded London’s Metropolitan Police as “institutionally racist”.
The report concluded: “There are still racist police officers and there are still policies and practices that raise serious concerns about their impact on ethnic minority people.”
