Two released in homeless man’s bin death probe

Last update - Sunday, September 15, 2013, 15:05 By Metro Éireann

Two people arrested in connection with the death of Henryk Piotrowski, whose body was found at waste recycling facility in Walkinstown area on 23 August, have been released without charge.

The duo – a man in his 40s and woman in her 30s – were detained at Crumlin Garda Station on 4 September under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and subsequently released the next day, despite earlier media reports suggesting they had been charged with assault.

Following the discovery of Piotrowski’s body in a refuse dumpster at a west Dublin recycling plant, Gardaí appealed to the public for help in tracing his last movements. The 43-year-old Polish man had been living on the streets.

As reported in the last issue of Metro Éireann, Gardaí said the truck in which the body was found had collected recycling bins from Dublin city centre. Out of the 55 bins collected that day, 30 were the larger 1,100-litre size, one of which contained the deceased. It is thought he had crawled into the bin to sleep.

Gardaí said Piotrowski was seen in the Dame Street area between 7pm and 10pm on Thursday 22 August. There were also reported sightings on the south quays in the Wood Quay/Merchants Quay area several hours before his death on Friday 23 August.

Gardaí still want anyone with information on Piotrowski or his whereabouts to contact Crumlin Garda Station at 01 666 6200.

- Meanwhile, a man has been charged in relation to the death of Aleksandra Sarzynska at her home in Navan last month.

The 36-year-old man was expected before a special sitting of Trim District Court on 7 September charged with an offence in connection with the murder investigation.
