Turkish Airlines scoops award for ‘best airline in Europe’

Turkish Airlines has been named the best airline in Europe for the second year running at the 2012 Skytrax World Airline Awards held recently in England.
Turkey’s flag carrier came tops in a polling survey conducted by Skytrax, a global aviation research organisation that provides reviews, rankings and advice on airline services.
More than 18 million people from some 100 countries participated in the survey, which also voted Turkish Airlines as best airline for southern Europe and as having the best premium economy seats.
“Turkish Airlines continues to consolidate its position as one of the world’s leading airlines and the awards they have received today demonstrate their continued popularity amongst passengers,” said Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted at the awards ceremony at the Farnborough Air Show.
“The award Turkish Airlines collected for the best premium economy class airline seat is a clear reflection of the success of this high quality product,” he added.
Murat Balandi, the airline’s managing director in Ireland, says there are multiple reasons for the success of the company in Europe, one being the airline’s ability to operate efficiently.
“We are a quality airline with many planes that can take people to some great destinations in no time at all,” he said. “We are very happy about receiving this award the second year in a row and we are looking to expand our fleet and flight frequency in Ireland in the coming year.”
Along with Europe, Turkish Airlines also operates in the Americas, Australia, Asia and Africa, where it recently opened flights to Somalia, the first international airline to do so since the start of the country’s civil war in 1991.
