All are invited to attend the third annual World Refugee Day Fair Play Football Cup this weekend.
The initiative of Sport Against Racism Ireland (Sari) and UNHCR takes place on Sunday 17 June at the Law Society on Blackhall Place, Dublin 7 from 10.30am till 3pm, and admission is free.
According to organisers, the Fair Play Football Cup “will feature refugee teams from Somalia and the DR Congo, Sari’s own team of young players, media teams from Hot Press and The Star and other teams including NGO workers and Government officials.”
And aside from the action on the pitch, a variety of events such as soccer skills training, face painting, hula-hoop and juggling workshops, music and much more have been lined up for the family-friendly event.
The day also kicks off UNHCR’s Do 1 Thing campaign for 2012, which asks people in Ireland to take one simple action to show support for refugees and asylum seekers both at home and internationally who have fled their homes in the hope of finding safety in another country.
