That’s the spirit! Ireland’s first black mayor launches foray into drinks market

Last update - Tuesday, October 15, 2013, 15:43 By Metro Éireann

A new brand of new Irish cream liqueur created by Ireland’s first black mayor has been launched in grand style at the Irish ambassador’s residence in the Nigerian capital Abuja.

Irish Mayor is blended and bottled in Abbeyleix, Co Laois, and is the brainchild of Rotimi Adebari, who was elected as mayor of Portlaoise Town Council in 2007.

Presenting the product to Irish ambassador to Nigeria Patrick Fay, Adebari said Irish Mayor “captures everything that makes Ireland such a special and loved place in the hearts and minds of anyone who has ever come to its shores.”

HRH Oba Doctor Olurotimi Fagbenro, the Oloke Odan of Oke-Odan, also sang the product’s praises, adding that the introduction of Irish Mayor into Nigeria market would further strengthen ties between Nigeria and Ireland.

Irish Mayor was officially unveiled by Victor Oladokun, formerly of CBS News and now director 3D Global Leadership, at the special launch event attended by diplomats, business leaders and traditional rulers.
