The 20th annual EBS/Into National Handwriting Competition has been launched for national school students around the country.
The contest is part of an annual campaign to highlight the importance of good handwriting. It traditionally attracts entries from over 100,000 children all over Ireland.
This year entrants are being asked to write a piece of prose or a poem about their own family, or copy a piece connected to family in some way. Students are not being judged on content but the style, flair, neatness and layout of their handwriting.
Speaking at the launch, Noreen Flynn, president of the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (Into) said: “Our aim is to celebrate the skill of handwriting among all children from infants to sixth class.”
Aidan Power of EBS added that the building society “has a long association with education and has been partnering with the Into for the past twenty years to ensure the skill of handwriting is kept alive among the youth of Ireland.
“Each year I’m amazed at the number of entries we receive nationwide and I hope this year will be no different. I wish everyone the best of luck with their entries – get writing!”
The closing date for entries in this year’s competition is Friday 24 February. For further details visit www.ebs.ie.
