The Mansion House in Dublin played host to an international evening for students recently. Hosted by the Irish Council for International Students and the Union of Students in Ireland (USI), the evening featured discussions on various topics pertinent to students’ lives in Ireland, with participants switching between tables to tackle the broadest range of issues.
Individual students were also invited to share their experiences with the packed room. One American woman studying politics noted the “overwhelming” experience of living in a new culture. “Even after a few years, I am still adapting and learning,” she said. “It is a long process.”
Another question discussed by students was what would make the biggest difference to improve their experience in Ireland. Every group gave suggestions such as finding places to meet socially, integrating with Irish students, linking with people who have been in Ireland before.
Access to information on courses, money, immigration and other practical matters were also highlighted.
