Green clovers on the windows, St Patrick’s Day posters pinned-up and Guinness signs placed outside – and that’s just a pub on a WrocÅ‚aw corner.
Surprising as it may seem, lots of places across Poland observe this very Irish celebration on 17 March. The Rampa Theatre in Warsaw is just one of them.
This year, it will host Celtic Motion Project, a joint performance of the Beltaine and Comhlan bands, the second of which is an Irish-Scottish dance group and the first a renowned musical outfit. Both of them are comprised of Poles.
“It is a clash of Irish and Breton music with modern sounds and arrangements,” MaÅ‚gorzata WilczyÅ„ska of Comhlan explains. “It is a spectacular Irish stepdance and we use instruments which are characteristic not only for Breton and Irish music, but also Spanish and Indian.”
The show will be staged in numerous Polish cities including Rybnik and Chorzów, igniting an atmosphere which for the Polish public is, without a doubt, Irish.
