FashionPR Ireland joined AkiDwA to celebrate the 101st annual International Women’s Day in style at Dublin City Hall on 8 March.

The centrepiece of the evening was the Fashion Connexion showcase, with girls aged from three to 30 hailing from Ireland, Europe, Africa and Asia on the catwalk showing Irish fashion and jewellery designer collections from Helen Moriarty, Ger Breslin, Janice Byrne, Sinead Cooke, Niamh Spain and Sara Hunter.
Makeup and hair was sponsored by the international Makeup Academy, whose Marina Crean, Jenny Russell and Helen Reavey helped all the girls to look gorgeous on the night. And DJ Djette provided the beats as the models strutted their stuff.
The evening was also a celebration of AkiDwA’s theme of the year – connecting young migrant women and inspiring their future.
The chosen theme ties in with AkiDwA’s ongoing project, the Young Migrant Women’s Forum, where young women come together for inspiration and friendship.
Speakers included Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin Maria Parodi, who launched AkiDwA’s Strategic Plan for 2012-2014; Ann Walsh from the National Youth Council; and AkiDwA’s Amaka Okonkwo and CEO Salome Mbugua, who commented on the ongoing struggle for equality, the protection of women and the life of the migrant woman.
Also present at the event, compered by Newstalk’s Dil Wickremasinghe, were former Dublin Lord Mayor and current MEP Emer Costello, Nigerian Ambassador to Ireland Felix Pwol and representatives from the Kenyan, Ethiopian and South African embassies.
