UKRAINIAN STAR Andriy Shevchenko has shared his relief after getting his first goal at the San Siro since returning to AC Milan. The striker, who endured a torrid time at Chelsea, last week hit the back of the net in Milan’s 2–1 Coppa Italia defeat to Lazio, his first goal at the ground since re-donning the red and black stripes.
Shevchenko (32) has failed to hold down a first team place, only starting in Uefa Cup and Coppa Italia matches. As at Chelsea, he has found himself relegated in the pecking order, this time behind Ronaldinho, Pato, Marco Borriello and Filippo Inzaghi.
The most expensive player in English soccer history two years ago, Shevchenko will be hoping that his recent exploits will get him back on the right track.
“Finally I’m back among the goals and on top of that it happened at the San Siro,” he said. “I feel better, I’m growing, I’m happy. For me the most important thing is to play, to find my form and every game I play allows me to take a step in the right direction.”
However, Shevchenko admitted that he is still far from his best. “The team and me in particular had many chances. At this time I need to rediscover a certain calmness in front of goal,” he added.
