Kenyan police have expressed concern over the alarming rate of commercial sex tourism that targets young boys in the country.
According to a police spokesperson, young males from poverty stricken families are being lured into prostitution by wealthy foreign male tourists in many of the country’s coastal towns, especially in Malindi, a resort town near the Kenyan capital Nairobi.
Speaking at a recent public awareness event in Malindi, deputy county commissioner Joshua Nkanatha and head of police Kiprono Lang’at warned that the phenomenon is contributing to a rise in HIV/Aids and other sexually transmitted infections, as well as incidences of incontinence among the young boys being preyed upon.
The authorities have called for an urgent public awareness on the dangers of male prostitution.
