ANTICIPATION for the Miss Zimbabwe pageant is reaching fever pitch for 12 young beauties hoping to launch modelling careers.
This is the first year of the competition that aims to discover the most beautiful Zimbabwean ‘queen’ living in Ireland, and the grand final takes place on Saturday 1 August at the Radisson SAS hotel in Stillorgan, south Dublin.
Stha Ngwenya, one of the organisers of the event, revealed the origins of the competition: “It hadn’t been done before and we wanted to set up something unique to show the beauty of Zimbabwean culture here in Ireland as it is something quite different from other African cultures.”
There are four stages, consisting of sportswear, casualwear, African wear and evening gowns. The sections will be interspersed by entertainers and musicians from Zimbabwe, and finally the ladies will showcase their personalities by answering questions about what they think is wrong with society.
This gala fashion evening is a springboard for the careers of aspiring models and also a showcase for upcoming African designers and African-inspired designs.
There are three awards in total, with the final winner being crowned the queen and the two runners-up becoming princesses.
