Edamame pods may sound new and/or fancy to some, but they are quite easy find nowadays, and even easier to prepare.
Perhaps better known as green soya beans, this yummy side-dish originally hails from Japan and China. Edamame contain a high amount of protein and are very low in fat. This combination makes it a perfect meal for every diet and is a great snack alternative.
Just make sure to press the beans out of the pods before you enjoy!
Ingredients:
600g edamame pods, fresh or frozen
1 1/2 tbsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
1/2 tsp chili powder (optional)
Remove the stems off all the edamame pods before washing and cleaning them thoroughly, then place them in a bowl.
Pour 750ml to 1 litre of water in a pot, heat and add salt. When the water comes to the boil, place the edamame pods in the pot and boil for 4-5 minutes, or until the pods have become soft.
When ready, remove the pods from the boiling water, drain them in a colander and rinse in lukewarm water for about 30 seconds.
Sprinkle on a pinch of salt, and/or the garlic/chili powder over, stir until all the pods are coated, and serve.
