POLES IN Cork will participate in the city’s St Patrick’s Day parade – with a somewhat unearthly exhibition.
One of the participants, Marcelina WÅ‚odarz of Polish group My Cork, commented: “The topic, Cosmic Chaos, is related with the general festival subject, that is to celebrate the UN International Year of Astronomy.
“We would like to express our idea about the cosmos, its mystery, beauty. You will find everything that is associated with it: meteors, stars, cosmic waste, even a black hole.”
WÅ‚odarz added that a personification of the famous astronomer MikoÅ‚aj Kopernik – better known to westerners as Copernicus – will open their parade entry.
Monika Nowakowska, also from My Cork, stressed to Metro Éireann the huge activity of the organisation. Registered in April 2006, it has been involved in many projects in cooperation with Cobh Maritime Festival, Fota Gardens, An Garda Siochána, among others. Its members also run sports and arts projects.
“I love to create something out of nothing,” adds WÅ‚odarz of their parade entry project. “For example: take a cloth hanger, a cane, a tape and foam and you have a satellite. You will see yourself.”
