Online survey on services for the disabled

Last update - Thursday, July 16, 2009, 17:50 By Metro Éireann

Enable Ireland Disability Services is asking people with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities in Dublin to take part in an online survey investigating their experiences of taking part in social and leisure activities.

In 2008, we undertook research into five areas of access for people with disabilities – transport, education, social and leisure activities and infrastructure. The findings showed that two out of three people found it difficult to access any form of social or leisure activity, highlighting a need to understand more about the barriers people face in this area.
The survey will probe the barriers that people with disabilities may face when taking part in social and leisure activities, from joining a local youth group for a child to going to the local pub for an adult. These could include physical access barriers, lack of confidence or a shortage of Personal Assistance hours.
The survey is available online at www.enableireland.ie/actionweek and consists of just 10 questions. Results will be released in advance of Action Week on Disability, which will take place from 14–19 September 2009.
During the week, Enable Ireland will be asking people to Take Action on Disability and buy an Action Badge or run an event in aid of Enable Ireland. To get your fundraising pack call 1850 204 304 or e-mail campaigns@enableireland.ie
