New radio series to lift lid on lives of Dublin’s Indians

Last update - Thursday, March 12, 2009, 18:50 By Metro Éireann

INDIANS will ‘lift the lid’ on their lives in Ireland as part of a new radio series, beginning next week.

The 13-part documentary  Little India in Ireland is being broadcast on Dublin South FM Community Radio, and counts local Indian community rep Sudhansh Verma as its co-producer.
He told Metro Éireann: “This series is totally new and unique in that for the first time ever, a comprehensive investigation of all aspects of Ireland’s Indian community has been done, with Indians throughout the length and breath of Ireland explaining over the course of 13 programmes what Ireland’s Indian community is all about.”
Verma said that listeners will hear Indians talk about their work in Ireland, the sports they play, their undying love for Bollywood flicks and Indian soap operas, their fanatical passion for cricket and some more unexpected insights.
And according to Verma, success stories are not difficult to find.
“From our extensive research into the Indian community during our year-long production of this series, it’s quite clear that Indians who come to Ireland, whether to work for a company or set up their own business or whatever, most often succeed beyond all measure,” he said
“What unites all the Indian entrepreneurs interviewed in the series is hard work, discipline and a steely determination to succeed. This is also true for the majority of Indians working for companies in Ireland.”
Verma added: “In the series, we not only uncover the experiences of Indian employees in Ireland, but just as importantly – especially in the midst of our current recession – we also turn the spotlight on those many intrepid Indian entrepreneurs in Ireland who’ve successfully set up their own businesses here and helped to create enterprise and employment.”
He said many contributors strongly recommended that all Indians and foreign nationals  make it a personal duty to help energise the Irish economy and create more enterprise.
Little India In Ireland will be broadcast on Dublin South 93.9 FM every Wednesday at 4pm beginning 18 March, and also on Dublin City 103.2FM every Thursday at 11am beginning 19 March. The series has received funding from the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland.
