New drama camp for children who stammer

Last update - Thursday, July 2, 2009, 15:44 By Metro Éireann

The Irish Stammering Association (ISA) and the Gaiety School of Acting will be hosting a summer drama camp for children who stammer in Dublin next week. The camp will for run from 6–10 July at the Gaiety School of Acting in Temple Bar and is open to children who stammer from aged 7–13 years.

The weeklong course will be a complete theatrical experience incorporating acting, creative writing, stagecraft, music, singing, mime and movement. Each student will have the opportunity to create their own character and be part of a performance at the end of the week.
It will be a unique creative opportunity for children who stammer to express themselves creatively among a group of their peers in an environment where they will not be judged by how they speak.
The children who participated in drama workshops organised earlier in the year gained so much confidence and enjoyment from the experience that we are sure this summer camp will be as much fun as well as helping them believe in their ability to speak and express themselves regardless of how they speak.
The fee for attending is just €80 for members of the ISA and €120 for non-members. In addition, families can join the ISA now for just €20 – membership forms can be found on our website at www.stammeringireland.ie.
To find out more about the drama camp, call the Irish Stammering Association at 01 872 4405. To register your children at the camp, contact the Gaiety School of Acting at 01 679 9277.
