The anti-racist message of the Never Again Association was at the heart of Europe’s largest music festival, which brought together 500,000 people from 1-4 August.
The free open-air Przystanek Woodstock or ‘Polish Woodstock’, at Kostrzyn on the Polish-German border, started with a minute of silence to commemorate those who had died during the anti-Nazi ‘Warsaw Uprising’ on 1 August 1944.
Aside from the music and family-friendly atmosphere, Never Again organised various activities at the festival site, including a soccer tournament held under the motto ‘Let’s Kick Racism Out of the Stadiums’.
Players from all over Poland as well as Russia, Ukraine and Germany were joined by an all-star ‘Project Integration’ team comprising African-born soccer players from various Polish clubs.
As part of its focus on combining music and sports with education, Never Again organised various workshops, presentations and discussions about discrimination, xenophobia and multiculturalism at its multilingual info stand.
Each day thousands of young people visited the stand to talk about Never Again’s message and receive anti-racist educational materials.
