Rumours that St Patrick’s Athletic’s Joseph Ndo had been let go by the Dublin club have been put to bed after the Cameroonian star played 70 minutes against Drogheda United at the weekend.
Several football websites were reporting over the last two weeks that the Saints had axed Ndo, who had been out of action since he limped off 30 minutes into a league match against UCD in May.
However, the claims began to look unfounded when the player, who signed from St Pat’s’ Dublin rivals Shelbourne FC last year, took to the field for the Saints’ under-21s last week.
The rumours were then firmly put to bed when the African appeared in the starting line up for the Saints’ away fixture against Drogheda United on Friday night last.
A St Pat’s spokesperson said of Ndo’s return: “This is a huge boost for John McDonnell’s side, who have been struggling to find some form of late.”
The former Cameroonian international, who started in midfield, made way on 71 minutes for Keith Fahey during the all-important top-of-the-table clash, which gave the Dublin side a chance to close the five-point gap on the league leaders.
However, St Pat’s eventually went down 2–0 to the hosts, leaving them a full eight points adrift and with their chances of a league title looking all but gone.
