Migrants to march for legalised status

Last update - Thursday, December 15, 2011, 00:18 By Metro Éireann

Hundreds of undocumented migrants and their families will join supporters of the Justice for the Undocumented Campaign in a candlelight march from Grafton St to Leinster House on Saturday 17 December.

According to organisers, the march is intended to highlight the plight of the estimated 30,000 undocumented mig-rants – including children – in Ireland who are “living in limbo and are essentially cut off from visiting their families, a harsh reality at Christmas time.”
The marchers will be calling on the Government and Minister for Justice Alan Shatter to introduce an earned regularisation scheme that would give undocumented migrants in Ireland the opportunity to legalise their immigration status.
More information on the Justice for the Undocumented Campaign is available on the MCRI website at www.mrci.ie.
