YOUNG SOCCER stars from Lithuania will be among those participating in an international soccer tournament in Ireland next February.
The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) recently announced details of the 2009 under-15 international tournament, which will take place in the midland venues of Athlone, Tullamore and Mullingar. Alongside Ireland and Lithuania will be Russia and Belgium, forming a four-nation tournament that kicks off on 10 February.
Edward Tynan , chairman of Mullingar Athletic, was delighted with the announcement and was looking forward to Mullingar hosting its first ever international football match.
“Obviously, this is a truly historic occasion for Mullingar Town and Mullingar Athletic,” he said. “To the best of my knowledge, this is the first ever international match in any sport to be held in Mullingar Town and it promises to be a memorable occasion.”
Entry to all matches in the tournament is free of charge.
