Ireland’s u-19 women’s team secured back-to-back wins over Poland last weekend in a friendly double-header played in Dublin and Limerick.
The Irish hammered the Poles 4–0 in Tolka Park on Friday evening in what was the opening game of their season. The win prompted manager Sue Ronan to assert that her team are well able to make it to next summer’s European Championships.
The FAI had distributed 2,500 free tickets in total to members of the Polish community, but those who turned up for the Limerick friendly were again disappointed with their team going down 2–0.
The impressive Stephanie Roche ensured that Ireland did the double in the Treaty City scoring once in each half.
Speaking after the match, Sue Ronan said she was delighted with the win and the performances of her side over the two games.
She continued: “We had to change things around after Friday’s game and we probably didn’t produce the same flowing football that we did at Tolka Park. However, I am happy with the performances as we scored six goals in both games and conceded none and both results will give us a lot of confidence going into the Uefa Championships qualifiers next month.”
The event saw Irish skipper Jennifer Critchley presented with a special commemorative trophy by the chairman of the Irish and Polish Cultural and Business Association and both sides were awarded medals to mark the occasion.
