Integrating Ireland last week launched its new voter website iVote.ie and encouraged members of immigrant communities to register to vote before the upcoming registration deadline of Monday 18 May.
According to Aki Stavrou, director of Integrating Ireland: “Civic and political participation is a central cornerstone of integration. We want to support residents of all ethnic communities to play an active part in the political life of their cities and counties.”
The new website offers support to immigrant organisations and immigrant voters around the country to access and share basic information and materials on registering to vote and the voting process, as well as highlighting events and activities taking place in the run up to the June 2009 elections.
The website was developed in partnership with immigrant groups as well as representatives from the Dublin City Council Migrant Voters Campaign.
The site features FAQs, videos and has compiled materials on voter information in a variety of languages.
It also includes links through which voters can check their own details on the voter register, review the profiles of candidates in every constituency, contacts for their local council and organisations in their area.
The iVote.ie website is part of a continuing Integrating Ireland project of activities over the last year, which have supported its network members working on active citizenship and civic participation projects in advance of the June 2009 local and EU elections.
Correction: Idowu Olafimihan
On page 7 of last week’s issue, we inadvertently misspelt the first name of election candidate Idowu Olafimihan in a story headline. We regret the error.
