Insaka FC’s boys take home the Ronnie Bradshaw Cup

Last update - Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 11:45 By Metro Éireann

A MULTI-ETHNIC soccer team in Dublin has claimed its first ever domestic trophy. The predominantly African-born Insaka Ireland FC, who play in the North Dublin Schoolboys/Girls Leagues (NDSL), saw-off northside outfit Darndale FC by three goals to nil to claim the Ronnie Bradshaw Cup at the Oscar Traynor Centre in Dublin recently.

Insaka’s route to the final of the under-18 knockout competition was far from easy. Their first round tie was away to Drogheda Town, which they edged 2-1, while the quarter-final was a similarly close affair at home to Malahide United.
Their semi-final opponents were Boyne Rovers away, who they defeated 3-1 before meeting Darndale FC in the decider showdown.
Insaka attract a large following especially within Dublin’s young African-born communities, and are managed by former Nigerian international James Igwilo and coached by another Nigerian ex-pro, Zuby Ufoh.
The team play their league fixtures in the under-18 premier NDSL, where they were in second place at press time.
