INDIAN beauties will battle it out in Dublin this Saturday for the coveted title of Miss India Ireland.
According to the India Club in Ireland, all proceeds from the Dublin gala, taking place at the Stillorgan Park Hotel, will go to the Hope Foundation who work with Calcutta’s street children.
Food, music and dance will precede the contest, the winner of which will join twenty other women in the Miss India Worldwide contest in Durban, South Africa this February.
The contestants at the national pageants, such as Saturday’s event, are of Indian origin, between the ages of 17 and 27, never married, and are citizens, residents, or born in the country which they represent. The pageant consists of four segments – evening gown, Indian dress, talent and question/answer.
Shagun Sarabhai, who won last year’s Indian national contest, is Miss India Worldwide 2008. Miss India Canada, Uppeka Jain, was the first princess and Sabiha Hussain from South Africa was crowned second princess at the last event.
