Independence carnival night goes off with a bang!

Last update - Saturday, October 15, 2011, 10:11 By Metro Éireann

The Dublin Ankara Carnival, which has been promoting the best of Nigerian and African culture through fashion, music and dance for the last five years, celebrated Nigeria’s independence on 2 October at the Carlton Hotel in Tyrrelstown, north Dublin.

As ever, this year’s carnival offered a display of African beauty, fashion, style and entertainment, with performances by musical talents Krystal Dollz, a fashion show showcasing the latest styles and a display of beautiful Ankara designs and jewellery by designer Jessy Jazzy among many other attractions.
An impressive turnout at the event included Africans from all over Ireland, as well as a contingent from the Nigerian Embassy led by GO Alabi, representing Nigerian Ambass-ador to Ireland Felix Pwol.
Nigerians and Irish alike were adorned in various traditional styles made from Ankara and other African fabrics. Popular DJ Ola also got the crowd jumping with African music that brought back joyful memories.
The carnival, hosted by Miss Africa Ireland organisers by Tritees Promotions, was presented by Tina Tinuke Akinola-Jinad, chair of Tritees and co-ordinator of the Nigerian Community Ireland (NCI).
