A new exciting one-act play is to run for four days in the Powerscourt Gallery in Dublin.

Out Of Control, a contemporary drama written by Maria Ann Hylton, tells the story of Karen, a bright 18-year-old who is planning to go to college and has her whole future ahead of her.

Unfortunately for Karen, for the past six months Chloe, the school bully, has been “messing with her head”. So Karen decides to call in her cousin Sharon, a tough 22-year-old Dubliner who has her own method of dealing with this situation.

This is a short, sharp, sinister play that delves into the issues that arise from bullying among women.

The writer. Maria Ann Hylton. co-founded Morton Films & Media in 2005 with Liam Moran. They have produced many successful plays and films, including Bitter-sweet, a short film written and directed by Hylton that will be screened at the Underground Festival in London, the Short Day Film Festival in Galway and the Yellow Fever Festival in Belfast. It has already had its premiere at the Underground Cinema Festival in Dublin.

Hylton also wrote and directed The Couple a short film that was shortlisted for the Jameson Best Irish Short Film Award in 2005 at the Cork Film Festival.

Both Hylton and Moran were executive producers on the feature 8.5 Hours, which has won several awards and was screened at Cannes Film Festival Marche Du Film in 2009.

Her most recent work was ‘No Irish No Blacks No Dogs’ staged at The New Theatre in Dublin, which is set to reprise its successful run in 2012.

Out Of Control features Siomha Ni Aonghusa, Sally O’Leary and Aoife William-son, and runs at the Powerscourt Gallery from 4-8 July.
