Give to Africa in its hour of need

Last update - Monday, August 15, 2011, 19:27 By Metro Éireann

The co-ordinating committee of African Students Association in Ireland (ASAI) is gravely concerned about the unfolding human catastrophe in the Horn of Africa.

The drought situation facing more than 12 million people in the region has turned into famine in some areas. This means there is very little of food to live on, and already great numbers of adults and children are dying from lack of food and nutrition.
Unfortunately this is happening in a situation of economic crisis in the west, compounded by disasters in Haiti, Pakistan and Japan. But that makes it more important that we appeal to the Irish public – including Africans and people from all nations living here – to help in any way they can. Any assistance goes a long way to help people in an otherwise helpless situation.
On behalf of children and parents, young and old, who are striving right now just to see another day, we call on the people of Ireland to extend further their human hand by sending donations to organisations working in the region, such as Concern, Christian Aid, Goal, Trócaire and World Vision. Churches and mosques will also receive donations – just walk in and give.

coordinator, African Students Association of Ireland
