Garda appeal over homeless man found dead in Dublin recycling bin

Last update - Sunday, September 1, 2013, 14:01 By Metro Éireann

Gardaí are seeking the public’s help in identifying the last movements of a man whose body was discovered at a waste recycling facility in west Dublin on Friday 23 August.

The Polish man has been identified as 43-year-old Heryk Piotrowski, who was suspected to be homeless. Gardaí have already notified his family in Poland.

According to official sources, the truck in which the body was found had collected recycling bins from Dublin city centre. Of the 55 bins collected, 30 of which were the larger 1,100-litre size – one of which the deceased was believed to be sleeping in.

Gardaí said they believe Piotrowski was in the Dame Street area between 7pm and 10pm on Thursday 22 August. There were also sightings of him on the south quays in the Wood Quay/Merchants Quay area in the early hours of Friday 23 August.

Anyone who has any information is asked to contact Crumlin Garda Station at 01 666 6200.
