Gardaí have renewed their appeal for information on the brutal murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe in Co Louth last week.

In particular, anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the vicinity of Lordship Credit Union in Bellurgan, Jenkinstown, Co Louth between 7.30pm and 9.30pm on Friday 25 January or in the days preceding is asked to contact Gardaí urgently.

Meanwhile, the hunt for the killers continues. One line of enquiry, Gardaí said, is the burnt-out car discovered on Sunday 27 January on the Keady to Newtownhamilton road in Co Armagh.

“It has been established that this car, a navy Volkswagon Passat [with an 08 D registration] was stolen during the course of a burglary at Clogherhead, Co Louth between 11.30pm and 4.30am on 22/23 January,” said a Garda spokesperson. “On the night this car was stolen there was a large funeral in Clogherhead and this may jog some local people’s memories of the night.”

Gardaí have asked anyone who might have any information about or may have noticed the car at anytime leading up to Friday 25 January, or who may have seen the car in the Bellurgan or Keady areas, to contact the incident room at Dundalk Garda station at 042 938 8400.

Anyone with useful information can also phone the Garda confidential line at 1800 666 111, any Garda Station or the PSNI on 0489 065 0222 (from the Republic of Ireland) or 0845 600 8000 (from Northern Ireland).
