Dublin gets new Lord Mayor

A new Lord Mayor has been elected for the city of Dublin to succeed Cllr Andrew Mon-tague.
Fine Gael Councillor Naoise Ó Muirí was elected at the annual meeting of Dublin City Council on 25 June on a day that saw several local authorities nationwide elect new mayors.
He is joined by new Deputy Lord Mayor Cllr Clare Byrne, also of Fine Gael, who represents the South West Inner City Ward following her co-option to the City Council in 2007 and election in 2009.
The new Lord Mayor of Dublin, who lives near Griffith Avenue with his family, has been representing the Clontarf Ward (North Central Area) of Dublin City Council since the 2004 local election. He was re-elected in 2009.
Cllr Ó Muirí studied at NUI Galway and is a qualified engineer and member of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland. He is self-employed and runs Zing Technology, an Irish-owned business solutions firm. He is also a Gaeilgeoir and a self-described big GAA fan.
Before his election as Lord Mayor, he was the chair of Dublin City Council strategic policy committee on environment and engineering and a member of the council’s audit committee, and protocol and selection committee, among others.
