Dublin Bus recognises city’s unsung heroes

Last update - Saturday, October 1, 2011, 12:05 By Metro Éireann

The eighth annual Dublin Bus Community Support Programme celebrated the unsung heroes of the city on 22 September.

“We are proud to celebrate those who do the unseen work that needs to be done at a time that is perhaps the most difficult of all,” said Alan Kelly, Minister of State with responsibility for Public and Commuter Transport.
“We’re not just here to give you some quid, but to let you know that Dublin says thanks.”
During this year’s ceremony, Dublin Bus awarded more than 100 charities and community groups with grants of €5,000, €2,000 and €1,000 grants.
A wide range of organisations and initiatives, including Metro Éireann’s Dublin International Gospel Music Festival, The Sunshine Fund and LGBT Synergy, received honors.
Since 2003 Dublin Bus has given a total of  €176,000 to more than 1,100 local community groups and charities in the Greater Dublin Area.
“We realise that everyone in these organisations are giving of time on behalf of others, are caring and, most importantly, non-judgmental,” said RTÉ personality and the event’s host Mary Kennedy.
