A Donegal-based company providing innovative packaging solutions has be crowned overall winner of the Small Firms Association’s (SFA) National Small Business Awards 2012.
Euroflex – which was established 15 years ago by its managing director Derek Richardson and employs 40 people – also received a cash prize of €5,000 and a lifetime free membership of the SFA, as well as winning the Innovator of the Year category award.
“In deciding on the winning vote, the judges were impressed by the innovation evident in this company, not only in the R&D carried out, but the innovation within their internal business systems – a truly cohesive package resulting in great success,” said Ian Martin, SFA chairman and chair of the judging panel.
Five other companies were honoured at the event for their outstanding performance despite the current economic crisis.
They include two Cork-based firms: Biotector Analytical Systems, which won the Manufacturing category as well as the inaugural chairman’s award of €5,000, and the Bluehaven Food Company which won the Food and Drink prize.
Others are Kerry Coaches in the Services category, Louth-based Big Mountain Productions in the Outstanding Small Business (up to 5 employees) category, and Ryan's Cleaning Event based in Tipperary in the Environmental Sustainability category.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, guest of honour and Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton said: “This Government is committed to making Ireland the best small country in which to do business by 2016.
“These awards are synonymous with the very highest levels of performance and achievement in Irish enterprise.”
He added: “The SFA National Small Business Awards 2012 enable us to reward and showcase Ireland’s entrepreneurial talent.
“I sincerely congratulate all of the 2012 finalists, and wish you every continued success for the future.”
