UP TO 100 subsidised places at Lithuanian universities and colleges are being specifically reserved for teens of Lithuanian descent, the country’s Ministry of Education and Science has stated.
A ministry statement explained: “With the intent of fostering the link between foreigners of Lithuanian descent and their cultural and historical homeland and language, the Ministry of Education and Science is supporting their entrance to Lithuanian academic institutions.
“The children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of emigrated Lithuanians will be able to apply for nationally subsidised seats at first-cycle degree programmes or programmes of integrated studies at Lithuanian academic institutions. These students are being given 50 seats to fill in universities and 50 in colleges.”
The measures are approved by an order of the Minister of Education Gintaras Stepon-aviÄius.
Foreign students of Lithuanian descent will be admitted to academic institutions by competition, and like Lithuanian students, will be assigned scholarship scores based on their secondary school grades. However, these foreign students will be competing among themselves for seats.
