Her favourite event in Dublin

“The best event I’ve attended in the city was the greyhound racing,” says Leonie Fohrmann, who adds that the experience was unlike anything she had done before.

Leonie was at Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium, which hosts greyhound races on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday nights.

Coming from Germany, she says the evening was something that she would not have dreamed of ever witnessing. Even beyond the race itself, Leonie says that she “couldn’t imagine betting on dogs”.

“It was a really great and special event to go to,” exclaims Leonie, who is certainly enjoying her time studying abroad. She has been in Dublin since January and will continue to study in the city until April.

The greyhound race was just the beginning of Leonie’s experiences in Dublin, as she plans to be actively involved in many of the city’s events during her time here.

Her favourite pub or landmark

“My favourite pub here in Dublin so far is the Auld Dubliner at Temple Bar,” says Leonie, citing the variety of environments as the main reason she enjoys the pub so much.

“It has the downstairs bar where they serve traditional beer and where they are playing live Irish music every night,” she says, “On the other hand, upstairs they have a bar but also many seats where you can just sit and talk. Also, they serve traditional pub food upstairs.”

Leonie’s favourite landmark, meanwhile, happens to reflect the fact that she’s studying here.

“My favourite landmark here is Trinity College because it has been here for such a long time and has so much history,” she says. “Many famous people who stand out in Irish history studied there.”

But there’s more than just the historical side to the college. “The building itself has been here for so long,” says Leonie, “and still looks good!”
