Catherine Reilly speaks with Fabu D
His favourite sports club in Dublin
“Damn! Sports, sports, sports. Wait, wait...” says Fabu D, who needs some time on this important matter.
“Pat’s in Inchicore,” he reveals, referencing the famous Dublin soccer club St Patrick’s Athletic.
As Fabu recalls, the first soccer match he went to watch in Ireland was the Dublin derby of Pat’s versus Bohemians (Bohs) at Richmond Park in Inchicore.
“It was cool, it was nice... the drama, the football,” he recalls.
Fabu, originally from Nigeria, has remained “a big fan” of the south Dublin club ever since. Founded in 1929, St Pat’s play in the Irish Premier Division and are eight-time League of Ireland champions. Irish legend Paul McGrath and current international Kevin Doyle have represented the club.
His favourite pub or landmark
“I would say Q Bar,” says Fabu on his favourite watering hole. “No, no. Flannery’s on Camden Street,” he quickly adds.
Flannery’s is “amazing”, according to Fabu, who clarifies that this means amazing drinks and amazing women.
“There are a lot of good looking women there,” he adds.
As to his favourite landmark, Fabu cites the Molly Malone statue at the bottom of Grafton Street. Designed by Jeanne Rynhart, it was erected to celebrate the city’s first millennium in 1988 and depicts the fictional fishmonger who plied her trade in the city and died of a fever.
The song Molly Malone is not recorded earlier than 1883.
