Zimbabwean Reuben Hambakachere on…
His favourite event in Dublin
Just like American student Christine Basile in the previous instalment of CityFolk, Reuben opts for the crown jewel, so to speak, of Dublin events – the annual St Patrick’s Day parade in the city on March 17 in honour of Ireland’s patron saint.
“It brings the whole community together and people get out and enjoy it,” he says.
For Reuben, the event really showcases the multicultural nature of Dublin, “which is a cultured and diversified city”.
He continues: “I did not attend unfortunately this year, as it occurred on a Sunday and I was at church on Sunday. I watched it on TV. I have attended it previously.”
His favourite pub and/or landmark in Dublin
Reuben says that while he “knows where the pubs are”, he doesn’t drink. This substantially reduces the possibility of him having a favourite pub – which he doesn’t.
However, his response to a query on his favourite landmark is instantaneous: it is Trinity College, the famous Irish university founded in 1592.
The reason for his choice “goes a long way back”. As Reuben explains, when he was at secondary school in Zimbabwe, he played rugby against a visiting team from Trinity.
“Though they beat us, I enjoyed the game,” says Reuben, sportingly.
