Celebrate the wonder of many lives

A day of colour, music and friendship is promised in Louth next week as Women From Minorities (WFM) hold their annual exhibition there.

"Ireland is such a multicultural place now that we really want to make people aware of what happens in other cultures through the medium of food, dance, costume and music," said Benedicta Attoh, chairperson of WFM.  The locally based group aims to highlight other cultures that exist in the area too.

"We hope to help integration and we have invited many community groups but the event is open to all and is free," she said.

"We welcome anyone to come along who is curious and who would like an introduction to another culture, especially local people who live near."

The day's events will include displays from many countries including Nigeria, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Poland, Holland, South Africa, and Bangladesh.

"It will not be a traditional type of exhibition, it will be lively with music and featuring art and crafts, clothing, dance, songs and folklore.

We really hope people will bring their children too. It is important that children attend these events."

"I am particularly looking forward to the food. I am happy to learn from other cultures and will enjoy the costume and dress too," said Attoh.

The venue, Louth County Museum, is  a beautifully restored late 18th Century warehouse. The award-winning museum celebrates the story of the county's rich social and cultural history from the pre-Christian era up to the present day.

The events will kick off at 1pm at Louth County Museum, Jocelyn Street, Dundalk, on Saturday September 1, 2007. For more information, email:
