Bohemians stars Dean Pooley and Mark Rossiter were among the attendees at the Football Association of Ireland’s (FAI) inaugural Intercultural Soccer Tourna-ment, held last week.
Three teams of Irish players and five non-Irish teams competed in the tournament – supported by Dublin City Council and the Health Service Executive (HSE) – which was eventually won by the African All-Stars, a team made up entirely of asylum seekers.
“We were really happy with how the event went,” said Des Tomlinson, the FAI’s intercultural co-ordinator.
“Some of the players were really good and everybody had a great day.
“We want to expand this tournament and made it even bigger for next year.”
