The youth branch of Sietar – the Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research – is bringing the 13th edition of its annual congress to Belfast this year.

‘Finding Unity Within our Cultural Diversity’ is the theme of the 2012 congress scheduled for 6-9 September, which will bring together more than 75 student, young professionals and experts in intercultural studies.
Over the four days the participants will explore various types of conflict and approaches to reaching conflict resolution, with an emphasis on intercultural situations.
The attendees will also have a chance to analyse real-life conflict case studies and try to develop possible ways to resolve them.
According to organisers, it will also be “equally important for the participants to meet the locals, to listen to their stories about experiencing the Troubles in Belfast and about Belfast’s present, and to learn what could be the basis of understanding between cultures.”
Previous editions of the Young Sietar Annual Congress were held in Egypt, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey.
Each of these united between 50 and 100 participants of various backgrounds, both students and professionals, for exchanges of knowledge and experience, sharing best practice and exploring together the intercultural field.
Further details on the 2012 Belfast congress will be made available online at the event site tinyurl.com/yscongress2012. For more information on Young Sietar visit youngsietar.org.
