Here’s a healthy and flavourful way to boost up your immune system during winter! Seaweed has been an integral part of Asian cuisine for centuries. There are many different edible types of seaweed that are dried and packaged for consumer use. Wakame is full of vita- mins, calcium, and iron (to name a few) and can be found in any Asian grocery. Don’t be afraid to try something new!
Ingredients:
55g wakame seaweed
(usually 1 packet) 2 tbsp peeled ginger,
minced or shredded
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 spring onions, finely chopped 3 tbsp rice vinegar
(or fresh lime juice)
3 tbsp sesame oil
1 tsp garlic, finely chopped or minced 1 grated Granny Smith apple
1 small grated carrot
First soak the wakame in a bowl of cold water for about 5-6minutes. Drain off the wakame and replace in the bowl.
Combine the oil, soy sauce, rice vinegar (or lime juice), garlic and sugar into a small bowl and whisk until the sugar dissolves. Add the grated apple, carrot, and green onions into the bowl and stir. Pour the contents of the small bowl into the wakame and mix until well coated. Then serve!
