Arts scheme is unique opportunity’ for Ireland’s artists and communities

Last update - Wednesday, February 15, 2012, 02:14 By Metro Éireann

The Arts Council is once again offering artists and communities a unique opportunity to work together.

The Artist in the Community Scheme is managed by Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts, and aims to attract emerging and established artists who will encourage local communities to join in their work as active partners.
The scheme is open to artists from a variety of fields, including architecture, street performance, dance, film, literature, music, opera, theatre, visual arts and traditional arts.
Projects can take place in a wide range of social and community contexts, such as arts and health, arts in prisons, arts and older people – and arts and cultural diversity, which last year saw an increase in applications, according to Create.
Diversity and the arts was also the focus of an information and networking event in Limerick last summer, held in partnership with the Arts Council, Limerick County Council’s arts office and Doras Luimni.
For details on application criteria and assessment, or to book an advisory session about these, contact Katherine Atkinson at 01 473 6600 or e-mail
