Anti-bullying advert campaign gets Govt support

Last update - Sunday, September 1, 2013, 14:50 By Metro Éireann

The Department of Education has thrown its full support behind a new initiative to help prevent bullying and promote positive attitudes to mental health among Ireland’s 830,000 school-going children.

Throughout the new academic year, the Irish Educational Publishers’ Association (IEPA) will be including age-appropriate adverts featuring advice and helplines in up to 1,000 mainstream print and digital schoolbooks.

The adverts were designed under the direction of the Department of Education and Skills (DES), and cover such topics as include cyber-bullying and homophobia, as well as promoting general mental wellbeing.

“The IEPA is delighted that these crucial messages will be presented consistently, authoritatively and sensitively in a reader-friendly way,” said IEPA general secretary Cliodhna O’Donoghue.
