‘Hope for the future’ in DLR integration strategy

Last update - Wednesday, February 1, 2012, 17:06 By Metro Éireann

‘The Future is Ours’ is the theme of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown (DLR) County Council’s integration strategy and action plan for 2012-2015, launched with a new exhibition at Dun Laoghaire’s County Hall last month.

The exhibition, which is intended to convey “the many aspects and faces of diversity globally, nationally and locally”, included pieces from Unicef Suitcase Stories, Médecins Sans Frontières and the Southside Travellers Action Group.
Officials and dignitaries at the event included DLR cathaoirleach Cllr John Bailey, who hosted the launch, and special guest Fidèle Mutwarasibo of the Immigrant Council of Ireland.
According to the council, the county-wide strategy is “the culmination of many months of work carried out by NGOs, statutory and non-statutory organisations... brought together by a common interest and hope for the future.”
In all, 28 organisations have signed up to the strategy, which the council describes as “a wonderful example of interagency working at its best to improve our county for all of its citizens”.
Funding for the plan comes from the Office of the Promotion of Migrant Integration at the Department of Justice.
